Nonviolent Resistance and AFCCA - Therapeutic Sessions
We are offering a series of Nonviolent Resistance (NVR) therapeutic sessions this Fall for up to six families. These sessions are designed for caregivers of teens or young adults who display intense anger that escalates into harmful or aggressive behaviours. The program is especially intended for families supporting youth with Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders, including those related to prenatal alcohol exposure and FASD.
Do you struggle with:
A teen who engages in impulsive, harmful, sometimes even dangerous reactions or behaviours?
Finding the ability and strength to set healthy boundaries with your child with a Complex Neurodevelopmental Disability (DND) (ie. Autism, intense symptoms of ADHD, Anxiety, learning challenges and/or FASD) when things get unsafe?
Providing helpful accommodations with and for your teen with a CND while also making sure your own needs are being met?
NVR aims to:
Support families with these types of issues.
Improve safety within the household.
Prioritize and improve your wellbeing as a caregiver.
Teach new de-escalation techniques and help you to reduce the risk of repeated harmful behaviours.
Help you build a network of supporters; an informed circle of care.
Provide a plan that prioritizes the safety and dignity of all family members.
Our program offers Nonviolent Resistance (NVR) as a hybrid model. You will attend six psycho-educational group sessions to learn about the model and receive at least six individual sessions. We strongly encourage both parents to attend (for two-parent households), as NVR also aims to improve mutual support between partners.
Sessions will be held on Fridays from 9.00am to 10.30am ET.
