Parenting/Caregiving Lunch & Learn Series

Based on Angela's book, Not Your Typical Parenting Guide

Join us for a weekly Lunch & Learn series exploring practical strategies from Not Your Typical Parenting Guide. These conversations are designed for parents, caregivers, family members, as well as educators, and service providers supporting children and youth with complex or neurodiverse needs. It takes a village...

Each session focuses on a different topic drawn from the book and offers practical insights, compassionate strategies, and time for discussion. Participants are welcome to attend individual sessions based on their interests or join the full series.

Environment Matters: Nature, Structure, and Safety (May 6)

Caring for the Caregiver & Supporting Spirited Children (May 13)

Parenting children with complex needs can be demanding. This session explores caregiver wellbeing, preventing burnout, and practical strategies for guiding spirited or intense children while nurturing their strengths.

Understanding the Brain: Memory, Decision-Making & Learning (May 20)

Many behaviours that look intentional are actually brain-based challenges. Learn how memory differences, judgement, and decision-making affect behaviour, and explore supportive strategies that protect dignity while building skills.

Communication and Thinking Differences (May 27)

Some children struggle with abstract thinking, understanding rules, or processing language. This session focuses on communication strategies that make expectations clearer and reduce confusion for children with neurodevelopmental differences.
